AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Review

AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition was released 2 weeks ago, and while the debate still rages on regarding the pros and cons of AMD vs NVIDIA, we do know more substantial information about these cards. For most “prosumer” applications, the AMD Radeon Vega card more than holds their own.

With benchmarks and reviews leaking out, there are many charts out there that showcases the power of these cards. Professional designers are definitely going to want to get their hands on these cards. In theory, scientists and engineers can build equally powerful machines at a fraction of the cost. Something to note, however, is that while AMD will not have fully certified drivers, they will have specially tuned pro-optimized software support. While it is too early to declare a victor in this ongoing GPU battle, it is clear that the AMD Radeon Vega has intensified the battle for supremacy.

On the more technical side, here are a few of the important things to note for these Vega cards:

  • 300W Peak power consumption recommended 850W+ PSU, 2 PCI Slots used
  • 16GB HBM2 Memory, 2048-bit, 483GB/s Bandwidth
  • Supports: OpenCL 2.0, OpenGL 4.5, Vulkan API, AMD Eyefinity, PowerTune, FreeSync Technology, ZeroCore Power Technology, 5K (60Hz SST), 8K30, TrueAudio Next Technology
