Elemental Accelerator performs GPU-accelerated conversion of commonly
distributed digital video formats to H.264/AVC baseline, main, or high profile
output ready for upload to the web or burning to Blu-ray disc. By executing
demanding processing tasks on the Quadro GPU, Elemental Accelerator not only speeds
video transcoding, it frees CPU resources to perform other tasks, resulting in
a faster, more efficient video editing and production environment. Elemental
Accelerator 2.0 for Windows can deliver as much as a 11x performance
improvement compared to the standard CPU encoder.

As you can see from the chart below the CUDA-enabled Elemental Accelerator™
plug-in coupled with the Quadro FX 3800 is up to 11X faster than the standard
media encoder.
Project and Settings
We created an AVCHD 1920x1080 @ 23.976 fps Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS4 project
running 28 seconds in length. Using a 2.5 GHz Quad Core CPU system, we compared
the performance of the standard H.264 media encoder included with Premiere Pro
CS4 with the Elemental Accelerator video encoding plug-in. Using the Quadro FX
3800, we export this project as a 1280x720 @23.976 H.264 file. This file is
ready to be converted to flash format for web upload.
Performance will vary based upon which GPU and CPU are used. The chart below
highlights results for the same test applied to additional GPU/CPU
combinations.

These settings are
identical. Both use VBR 1 pass, target 25,000 Kbps, High Profile, and level
4.1.
